Morr F vs Tugain vs Mintop vs Minoxihead: which minoxidil to buy in India (2026)

Search for minoxidil in India and the same names come up every time: Morr F, Tugain, Mintop, and lately Minoxihead. They all say 5% on the box, the prices are all over the place, and half the pages comparing them are written by someone selling one. I have been putting Morr F 5% on my head twice a day since 30 November 2019, so I checked what each bottle contains and what it costs right now.

This is my personal experience plus public product information from the makers and online pharmacies, not medical advice. Talk to a dermatologist before you start or switch anything.

The short version

All the big brands are 5% minoxidil in a 60ml bottle. The real differences are whether finasteride is mixed in, how much alcohol is in the base, and what you pay. Morr F has finasteride, Mintop Forte and plain Tugain 5% do not, and both Intas and Dr. Reddy's sell alcohol-free versions at a higher price. Minoxihead is not a topical at all, it is an oral minoxidil tablet.

Morr F 5% (Intas)

Morr F is made by Intas Pharmaceuticals. The box calls it a minoxidil and finasteride lipid solution, and the composition line reads minoxidil IP 5% w/v, finasteride IP 0.1% w/v, base q.s. So it is 5% minoxidil plus a small dose of topical finasteride in one dropper bottle.

The base contains alcohol, though Intas does not print the percentage on the listings I checked; the separate alcohol-free Morr F Aqua+ tells you. At day 54 I wrote that the only thing I noticed from Morr F was dandruff, which I put down to the alcohol.

Price: around ₹646 to ₹765 for 60ml as of October 2026. PharmEasy had it at ₹646 and Tata 1mg at ₹765, against an MRP of ₹850. Apollo listed it at MRP with a cashback. Netmeds shows an MRP of ₹680, probably an older batch. Amazon.in had no offer live on the product page when I looked, so check the current price there.

Three cousins sit next to it. Morr 5% is the same thing without finasteride, around ₹659 on Apollo (MRP ₹775). Morr Max 5% is a minoxidil-only serum, around ₹694 on Amazon.in and ₹724 on Tata 1mg (MRP ₹795); the listings do not say what "Max" adds. Morr F Aqua+ 5% is the alcohol-free Morr F, around ₹836 on PharmEasy, with an MRP of ₹880 or ₹1,100 depending on the batch.

Tugain 5% (Cipla)

Tugain 5% is Cipla's plain minoxidil, no finasteride. PharmEasy lists it as minoxidil 5% w/v with absolute alcohol 30% v/v, and it ships with a spray applicator rather than a dropper.

Price: around ₹898 to ₹910 for 60ml as of October 2026. PharmEasy had it at ₹909.71 and Amazon.in at ₹909.70, both against an MRP of ₹1,057.80. Apollo had ₹898.90 and Tata 1mg ₹898. Netmeds shows an older MRP of ₹941.44.

Cipla has a confusing family here. Tugain Men 5% is the one with finasteride 0.1%, around ₹792 on Tata 1mg and ₹830 on Apollo. Tugain F+ 5% is also minoxidil plus finasteride. Tugain 5% Foam is a 60g can, minoxidil only, ₹1,050 on Tata 1mg (MRP ₹1,130) and out of stock on most other sites I checked, and there is a Tugain 5% Gel at about ₹1,114 on Apollo. If someone tells you "use Tugain", ask which one.

Mintop 5% (Dr. Reddy's)

Mintop Forte 5% is Dr. Reddy's plain minoxidil, probably the first name your chemist will say. Dr. Reddy's own product page lists minoxidil IP 50mg per ml with absolute alcohol 20% v/v, and Truemeds adds benzoic acid 0.1%. No finasteride.

Price: around ₹1,025 to ₹1,177 for 60ml as of October 2026, against an MRP of ₹1,310. Tata 1mg had it at ₹1,177, Apollo at ₹1,113.50, and Amazon.in from ₹1,024.74 depending on the seller. The 120ml works out cheaper per ml at ₹1,868.40 on Apollo. It is the most expensive of the four by a clear margin.

Dr. Reddy's also sells Mintop Alcohol Free 5% (around ₹959 on PharmEasy, MRP ₹1,261.46), Mintop Gain+ 5% (around ₹1,118 on Tata 1mg) and Mintop Eva 5% for women. None of them has finasteride.

Minoxihead (Asher Pharma): it is a tablet, not a solution

This one surprised me. I could not find a Minoxihead topical solution on Tata 1mg, PharmEasy, Apollo, Netmeds or Amazon.in. What exists is Minoxihead oral minoxidil tablets from Asher Pharma in 1.25mg, 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg, plus Minoxihead-F (with finasteride 1mg) and Minoxihead-D (with dutasteride 0.5mg). The only listings I found were wholesaler pages on IndiaMART quoting per strip of 10, so check the current price with a chemist.

Oral minoxidil is a different treatment, a blood pressure drug first, where the dose matters a lot. It does not belong in a comparison of scalp bottles and is not something to start from a forwarded message. I will do a separate post on it.

Hair 4U (Glenmark), briefly

Hair 4U is Glenmark's version and follows the same naming: Hair 4U 5% is minoxidil only, Hair 4U F 5% adds finasteride 0.1%. PharmEasy lists the F version at 40% absolute alcohol, the highest here, and it was out of stock there at ₹711 (MRP ₹790). The plain 5% spray was ₹904.50 on Apollo, ₹779 on Clinikally, and ₹678.52 as "New Hair 4U 5%" on PharmEasy. Stock is patchier than Morr or Mintop.

What I use and why

Morr F 5%, 1ml in the morning and 1ml at night, since 30 November 2019. I started finasteride 1mg alongside it, cut that to 0.25mg at day 54, and stopped the finasteride tablets in 2022. The minoxidil has not stopped. You can see what the first year looked like in my 1 year results post.

I stayed with Morr F for more than six years for a simple reason: it was the first thing that worked, and I did not want to touch what was working. The alcohol base gave me dandruff and that was the only thing I felt on the scalp. I never had itching that lasted. What finally made me switch, in mid 2026, was the finasteride in it. I had stopped finasteride tablets in 2022 because of side effects, and I slowly realised the topical finasteride in Morr F was still lowering my libido, by maybe 30 to 40 percent in my own judgement, even with no pain. So I moved to a plain minoxidil generic with an alcohol base. The shedding after that switch was the biggest I have had since the first month, and it is only now settling.

Which one should you pick

Plain rules, in order.

Sensitive scalp, dandruff, itching. Start alcohol-free. Morr F Aqua+ if you want finasteride in it, Mintop Alcohol Free 5% if you do not. Tugain 5% Foam is the other low-irritation option, if you can find it. Among regular solutions, Mintop Forte is 20% alcohol, Tugain 30%, Hair 4U F 40%, and Morr F does not print its number.

Budget. Morr F at ₹646 to ₹765 and plain Morr 5% at around ₹659 were the lowest 60ml prices I saw among the big brands. Mintop Forte costs nearly double. Tata 1mg's own-label 5% was ₹536 (MRP ₹745) if brand does not matter. Buy wherever the discount is that week.

Wants finasteride in the bottle. Morr F 5%, Morr F Aqua+, Tugain Men 5%, Tugain F+ or Hair 4U F. Topical finasteride still gets absorbed, so if the tablet gave you side effects do not assume the bottle is free of them, and none of these are for women.

Wants foam. Only Tugain 5% Foam, minoxidil only, and stock is unreliable. See the FAQ below.

Just wants the standard thing. Mintop Forte or Tugain 5%, plain minoxidil from big companies, in stock everywhere. You pay more for Mintop and get a spray with Tugain.

FAQ

Is Morr F better than Mintop?

Not in the way people mean, because both are 5% minoxidil. Morr F adds finasteride 0.1% in a lipid base with alcohol, while Mintop Forte is minoxidil only in 20% alcohol and costs about ₹400 more per bottle. If you want finasteride on the scalp pick Morr F, if you want plain minoxidil pick Mintop or Tugain. I have not seen a head-to-head trial between the two brands, so anyone telling you one "works better" is guessing.

Does Morr F have finasteride?

Yes. Morr F 5% contains finasteride 0.1% w/v along with minoxidil 5% w/v. The F in the name is the finasteride. Morr 5% and Morr Max 5% do not have it, and that is also why Morr F is marked for men only.

Is minoxidil available without prescription in India?

On paper, no. Minoxidil is entry 329 on Schedule H of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, so it should be sold only against a prescription, and Dr. Reddy's launch note for Mintop Eva says the same. In practice every site I checked marks it as a prescription item, some ask you to upload one, and some list the same bottle under an OTC URL or on a 10-minute delivery app. Get a prescription anyway, because the dermatologist visit is where you find out whether minoxidil suits your kind of hair loss.

Why is minoxidil foam not available in India?

I could not find an official reason from Cipla or anyone else, and Kenvue's India page for Regaine lists only the 2% and 5% solution, no foam. Tugain 5% Foam exists but was out of stock on four of the six sites I checked, in stock on Tata 1mg at ₹1,050 and listed on Apollo at ₹1,130.50. So it is less "not available" and more patchy and pricey. If you want foam because the solution irritates your scalp, the alcohol-free solutions do the same job and are easier to find.

If you find a bottle cheaper or see one go out of stock, leave a comment and I will update the table.
